Last Ride

Silas took his last ride on our motorcycle this past week. It was a very hard decision, but we decided to sell the bike. It has been so much fun, but has not gotten as much use as we would like since the baby got here. As much as we would have liked to keep it, it is not the most family friendly activity and Silas was just not finding the time to ride like he wanted to. I will really miss it too!! I think we will most likely end up getting another one down the road sometime since we enjoyed this one so much. Maybe when Ty is old enough to ride:) For now, this is as close as he is going to get to riding on it!!

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas!!! We had a wonderful trip to Texas for the holidays, and were thankful for the time we spent with family and friends. I will get more pictures from the trip posted soon. These are from before Christmas. We gave Ty a little present to hold, and of course it went straight in his mouth!! Sorry for your slobbery gift Martin:) This is our tree at the house. I put it in a new place this year, and I think it worked out pretty well. I was going to take it down this weekend, but my parents are coming up to visit and I wanted to leave it up for them to see and enjoy. They have never been to my house for the holidays before, so it should be fun!
We spent the weekend in Texas and headed back home at 5pm on Christmas Eve. We had an uneventful drive (BIG thanks to all those who have been praying for a quiet baby in the car!!!!) and made it home around 11:30pm. It was special to be able to spend Christmas Eve and morning in our house with just our family. Of course Ty did not have a clue what was happening, but we had a great time! I've got pictures I will post soon from the Texas trip as well as Christmas morning.

Book Club Christmas Party

We had our book club Christmas party last week and it was great!!! Only a handful of us ended up going, but we had a really good time with our small group:) We went to this fantastic little restaurant in Little Rock called the Brave New Restaurant. It is off the beaten path....more of a place you have to know is there to find. It was just fantastic!!!! I had pork tenderloin with a mustard sauce, beets, and a side of vegetables. We also had bread and salad. Then it was creme brulee for dessert....it was to die for!!! We did a book exchange and just had a wonderful evening chatting and laughing, and of course eating. It was my first girls night out away from the baby too, which was much needed and appreciated. I just wanted to thank my wonderful husband for taking care of the baby so I could have a night out. I fought the urge to call and check on them constantly, and only called once after we ate! Silas said the baby ate and went to bed just like usual and I was relieved that the boys had a good evening too:) Overall it was a great evening.

It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's a .....Goat?!?!

Yes, you read that right. I had a random encounter with a goat this morning! I was sitting in my living room feeding the baby and I heard my dogs start barking. They always bark at birds, squirrels, and the occasional dog that venture into the yard, so I tried to ignore them. They went crazy though, so I look out the window and what to my wondering eyes did appear...but a goat!! It's just walking around the yard, and then jumps up onto my deck and is looking around. I hoped it would go away, but since the dogs were throwing a fit, I figured I needed to intervene. Now this was no small little goat either, so I was a little nervous about what it might do when I went out on the porch with it!!! Anyway, I opened the door and yelled at it and scared it away. It hopped off the deck and ran around the side of the house. Then I ran to the front door and saw it walking down my driveway, so I thought....hey, I should get a picture of this thing for my blog!!! So I went out the front and it stopped and looked at me and posed for its photo op and then continued off down my street:) The things that happen when you live in Arkansas!!!!

Tyson and Santa

Ty got to see Santa for the first time a few weeks ago here in Searcy. I was a little hesitant to take him, since I have heard all the horror stories about children being scared, but he did great!! He really seemed to like the jolly old man and even managed to look at the camera!! I am keeping my hopes up that he will continue to cooperate in the years to come:) I have seen some priceless pictures on other people's blogs lately of their, lets just say, "memorable" encounters with Santa!!! The ones of the kids screaming are just hilarious!!! I'm sure that we will have some good ones to share in the future!

Uncle Jace

We have tried several times to adopt a college student through a ministry at our church the past few years, and it just never seems to work out for us. So this year we decided to not even try, and we ended up getting our best "kid" yet! Jace is the little brother of Silas' best friend Justin, and is here at Harding this year. We decided to invite Jace over for his 20th birthday and cooked him a dinner, and the rest is history! We have been so fortunate to have him around and really enjoy spending time with our adopted son! We have started calling him "Uncle Jace" for Tyson, since he does not have any biological uncles nearby right now:) Jace gave Ty the nickname "Little T," or "Little T. O." so we have fun calling him that too. Over the semester we have enjoyed taking Jace to church, taking him out to lunch and cooking dinners for him. We started a Monday Night Football tradition and he came over every Monday night to watch the game, eat supper and play with Ty. Oh yeah, we also watch the new show "Chuck." Overall, we have had a great time with Jace and look forward to his return to Searcy after the Christmas break. Ty was making some crazy eyes in the picture below!!!

December Update

This has got to be one of my favorite pictures of the little guy!! He is so interested in everything and those eyes are always big and bright! I will probably post a few times to get myself caught back up with pictures from the past few weeks. These pictures are mostly from Ty and Silas playing on the floor. Ty has been trying to stand since he was 2 weeks old and I tried to get a few pictures of him in action "standing." I have a feeling I am going to have my hands very full once this guy gets moving!!
Silas and I took Ty to a Christmas reception at Harding about 2 weeks ago, and we all had a really good time. I had to leave early to go teach my class, which was a bummer, because they had really good food!!! It was actually cold that day, so we got Ty bundled up for the first time in his little blue fleece suit. He was pretty cute in it:) Anyway, the Harding thing was really nice and we got to visit with some old friends and catch up with Chancellor Ganus and his wife. They were in Greece with us and we were excited to introduce them to Tyson for the first time. They have the campus decorated really nice for the holidays, but I couldn't get a great picture of the lights. They have icicle lights hanging from all the trees and its really neat. They had Christmas carols playing out on the front lawn and were even giving carriage rides around the campus! We did not have time for a ride though, but maybe next year. It was a fun festive evening and I'm glad we got to go.

Pregnant

No...not me!!! Just thought I would grab your attention:) It's just that it seems like things have come full circle and everyone else I know is pregnant again. I have a pregnant sister, so does Silas. I have a good friend who is pregnant and her little sister is due about the same time as my little sister. Just found out this week that another friend is pregnant, and several others at church as well. I know 3 women who are due this week or next. It is just crazy how these cycles go. I guess I will be attending lots of baby showers this upcoming year!! I am especially looking forward to meeting the 2 newest additions to our families....little Mosey and little Baker:)

First cereal

So Tyson got the go-ahead from his pediatrician this month to start eating some rice cereal, and to practice eating in general. He has been watching Silas and I like a hawk when we eat, and loves cups especially, so we figured he would be pretty interested in trying some food for himself:) He seems to really like it. We gave him his first cereal on Wednesday this week, and it was so cute(and messy!!). That little tongue went crazy trying to figure out how to swallow!! He did a lot better on Thursday and Friday, and seems to really be getting the hang of it. The messy part comes when he tries to pull it out of his mouth with his fingers, or when he starts spitting and drooling. We have had a lot of fun with this new milestone though, and look forward to the more adventurous feedings when we start with vegetables in the next few weeks! A friend of mine said they have made some of their own baby food, and it sounded interesting. I was wondering if anyone had tried this before, or had any ideas on easy foods to do this with? We also have a really cute little video of him eating, but I am not sure how to get it onto this blog. If anyone has some advice on how to do that as well, it would be much appreciated!!

Pictures

I know that Tyson will want to kill me for posting this picture when he gets older, but it was so cute that I had to share it! I think it's funnier because he still has his socks on!! Silas was getting him ready for his bath. Anyway, hope you enjoy the rest of the pictures.

Redneck moment

I had a total redneck moment today that I would like to share. You might be a redneck if you are folding your laundry and you cannot tell which of the camo shirts is yours or your husbands:) I had to check the sizes to figure it out.

Unappreciated Advice

Ok, so here is my random story from this past week. This is the second time one of the checkers at Walgreens has said something rude to me this past year, so I may have to stop shopping there. I hate it when complete strangers feel the need to give you advice about your personal life, but it always seems to happen to me. I went to Walgreens this week to buy some pregnancy tests....no, I am not pregnant, but I have heard that it is a good idea to take one every month or so when you are breastfeeding, just in case you are pregnant and may not realize it yet! So anyway, I feel pretty awkward about buying them anyway and am trying to be as discreet as possible in the line. Well the girl at the checkout counter picks them up and scans them, but just leaves them up there instead of putting them in the bag. I also bought some chapstick so they weren't the only thing I was buying. Well the girl proceeds to launch into a big story about how hard this chapstick is to open and gives me a little tutorial on how to work this mega hard product I have apparently just purchased. The whole time I am just thinking, put the stuff in the bag and lets move on lady!! When she feels satisfied that I am well educated on my chapstick functions, she then picks up the pregnancy tests and holds them up and says...."are these for you?" I thought about lying for a second, but what was the point, so I was like "yeah." She then says, "well good luck, if you are trying....are you trying?" So at this point I'm thinking, I cant believe I am having a talk about this very personal topic with a complete stranger, but I answered her anyway and said...no, I am not trying. So instead of dropping the subject she says, well do you have any more kids? I assumed (wrongly) that she had seen Ty sitting in his car seat in my shopping cart beside me and figured she was asking if I had any others besides him. I said "no." Then I pulled the cart closer to me and this is when she apparently sees Ty for the first time and goes...."I thought you said you didn't have any children!" (like I had lied to her) And I say, well none besides him. Then she asks how old he is and I tell her, and then here comes my most favorite part of the whole story. She looks at me and says very seriously...." Well maybe you should just concentrate on raising him right now and not worry about having more." NO joke. So then I take my bag and leave the store with my mouth hanging open and at a complete loss on what to say to a stranger who feels the need to say things like that to me. It's not really that I disagree with what she said, its just that I do not feel she is entitled to have an opinion about my life, and more than that, it is my opinion that people checking you out at any store should probably not make comments about the personal items you are buying. Now that I think about it, I should have gone to the line behind me where the boy was busy checking out a lady buying 3 HUGE packages of Depends! I don't think he was in the chatting mood about what we were buying:)
