5 Weeks old

Just wanted to post some pictures of Tyson at 5 weeks. He has grown a lot recently and I am enjoying getting to dress him up in cute outfits every day! I am trying to get good use out of them before he outgrows them!!

Teaching Debut

Well, I have officially taught my first college class this week! For those who don't know, I am an adjunct teacher at Harding this semester while I am taking maternity leave from my "day job." I am teaching a general education course...Sociology. I am hoping it will be pretty interesting and that my classes will participate in some good discussion. Me lecturing all semester will not be pretty if they don't talk much!! The first lesson was pretty boring as it was just a general overview of the class and expectations, as well as the historical background on sociology as a discipline. I am looking forward to getting to the more interesting topics in the next few weeks!! I am actually teaching 2 different classes, on Tue and Thur nights, that each meet once a week. I figured if I was going to prepare it all once, I might as well teach it twice! I will let you know how the rest of the semester goes. It is really different from doing therapy and just a little overwhelming since my classes have about 50 students in them each. It is definitely a learning experience. I cant believe I have a seating chart and a grade book!!! I also cant believe that I am teaching at the same school I graduated from not too long ago...it is weird to be in the front of the class instead of in the seats! I'm sure I will have some interesting stories along the way to share:) It is a little hard for me to leave Ty already, but thankfully it is only for a couple of hours in the evenings, and his wonderful daddy is watching him, so we don't have to have a babysitter. They get some good man time in I'm sure while I am gone:)

One month

I cannot believe Ty is a month old already! Time has flown so fast. He is starting to be awake more and more during the day and so we have started having some tummy time and "playing" on the floor or with toys. He still really enjoys just being held, and spends a lot of time sitting or sleeping in our laps too:) I know at times it is hard to tell if your own child is growing, since you see them everyday, but I can definitely tell the little guy is getting bigger. He is not only getting heavier to carry in his car seat, he has also just outgrown his newborn diapers. I asked several friends how I would know when he was needing to move up a size, and they all said, when he has a blowout...you need a bigger diaper!! Well, the big blowout came this week, and at church nonetheless! My favorite part of the story is that it also happened while he was sitting in my lap, so.....he not only ruined the outfit he was wearing, but also leaked all over mine as well!! Thank goodness I was prepared with extra clothes in the diaper bag! Too bad none of them were for me!!! Needless to say we moved right up to size 1 diapers (his big boy diapers) once we got home from church!! I am glad he is healthy and growing, but already sad that he is not such a tiny baby anymore.

Birthday Miracle

Tyson's first swim

For those of you who don't know, today is my 28th birthday:) It also happens to be Ty's one month birthday as well, so we are celebrating 2 big days today:) I don't know what happened yesterday, but Ty decided to give me the best birthday gift in the whole world...a full nights sleep!!! He went down at 8 pm, and then ate at 10:45pm (instead of his usual 12am) and did not wake up for his 3:30am feeding like usual. He made it all the way to 5:15am!! What a miracle! Of course this mommy woke up at the regular time wondering why he wasn't fussing like usual. Then at 4:30 I even got up to check on him because I was worried he wasn't waking up. He even went back to sleep until 7:15 this morning, so I got to be in bed even longer!! I feel amazing today and am desperately trying to figure out what we did yesterday that wore him out so he slept all night!! Thanks for the great night's sleep Ty!
Yesterday was also a big day, as Ty went swimming in our pool for the first time. I thought he might hate the water, but he seemed just fine with it. We had to wait until after supper so the sun was down, and we had a great time "swimming" together. His bathing suit is 3 sizes too big, but was handed down from a friend and all we had to use!! He also hated wearing the sunglasses, but we just put them on for the picture!! Maybe the pool wore him out, even though he didn't really move much! All I know is we both slept great and are having a wonderful day today as a result!

Tyson at 3 weeks old

Well, My little man is growing up fast. I can't believe he is already 3 weeks old!! He is so alert and busy, and I just love to watch his little face and wonder what he is thinking in there! We are getting into more of a routine by the day, and I am finally not a walking zombie from lack of sleep. Silas continues to be a huge help and gives me a break in the evenings to get some things done around the house. We have made it to church the past 2 weeks, and I have learned that I may be missing most of the services as this is the time he seems to get hungry! He continues to show his personality and can throw some major fits, but 99% of the time he is a happy little guy:) I have enjoyed my break from work, though have missed my co-workers and having adult time during the day. I am adjusting to being at home and love it, though it has been harder than I thought since I have a huge problem "relaxing" and sitting still. I always feel the need to be on the go and getting things done at home, which is almost impossible at times with a newborn. I am learning how to sit on the couch for hours and not stress about the laundry or how clean the house is. I am also learning to take little naps when he is sleeping, which most often is my only option since he sleeps the best in my lap and I can't do much else! I am starting to realize what the truly important things are and what can be done later, or not at all. I am so thankful for the opportunity to be at home with my son and watch him grow day by day. I am constantly amazed by how interactive he is, even at such a young age. I'm sure he will keep our hands full as he gets even more active in the days and weeks to come!

Tyson meets his G-Daddy

My dad finally got to meet Ty this past week and it was great! I love these pictures:) Ty even smiled for the first one, which he has never done before:) My dad said he thinks Ty looks like his father when he was young. I can see my dad in him too:)

I know it's not the best picture in the world, but it's one of the only ones we have with all three of us in it. Hopefully we will get more taken soon:)

2 Weeks Old

Ty turned 2 weeks old on Friday and had his 2 week check up today, the 6th. He is doing great according to the doctor:) He has regained his birth weight and also 5 more ounces, so he is up to 8 lbs and 11 oz now. I am glad to know he is eating well and healthy! We are doing well trying to settle into some kind of routine, no matter how crazy it is. Silas went back to work last week and I realized what a huge help he was around the house, so we had a few rough days getting used to doing everything on our own! I myself am learning to function on about an hour or two of sleep at a time, and trying to nap in the day when possible. We are really enjoying having this little guy at home and watching him grow and learn every day. It is amazing to already see little glimpses of his personality and what kind of person he will be. Hopefully I will be able to keep up with the blog and pictures as he grows. Hope you enjoy these most recent ones:)
