Getting Closer!

A lot happens every day with the house, so we have some more good pictures to show this week. We only have two more weeks to go, and I have been informed that there are A LOT of things left to finish, so it is definitely crunch time. Silas and I are going to have to stay in Jonesboro a few days next week just because of all that needs doing and approving and whatnot for the house. I guess that's how it works, they save the most stress for the very end! That does not help much in the way of me packing, but it will get done sometime I'm sure. I finished seeing clients for the last time this week and will get my paperwork wrapped up there, so they are ready to transfer to a new therapist. I have been busy doing several home studies as well these past few weeks, and should have them wrapped up next week too.

Ok, on to the pictures! The top ones are obviously of the kitchen and the cabinets. I am in love with the color, and very excited of how they turned out, since Silas and I created the color in the shop when we went to have them designed. Love it, love it, love it!!!! The cabinet guy liked them so much after we ordered them that he put these in his own business in the showroom! I love dark wood and they are just really different from cherry, which is your typical option. They also had the counter tops on yesterday afternoon, but I was so excited I forgot to take any pictures! I will save those for the next post. You can kind of see some of the lighting as well. The three pendant lights are hanging over what will be a bar that divides the kitchen from the eating area/dining room. You can click on the pictures to make them larger I believe and see a little more detail up close.
Ok, here are the floors in the kitchen and laundry room before the cabinets went in. I was pretty nervous about them as well, but I could not have imagined how well everything would look until now that it is coming together. Love the floors as well! They are much prettier really, but there is tons of dust and junk on them from all the grout and cabinets, so you can't see the true colors just yet. They need a good mopping!
This last picture is of the master bathroom with its fantastic bright blueness!! It looks better now that there are more things to balance it out, so I feel better about it already. I love the cabinets for the vanity in here as well....tons of storage space:) The counters look really good with the blue, but once again, sorry for no pictures. I will post again later with the tile color of the bathrooms too. It is definitely not the same as the kitchen since that would not have looked right with blue! They are really just a light neutral tan/beige color, which goes well with the counter tops. You can see a little of it at the bottom of the picture.
Anyway, those were the most exciting pictures from yesterday and this week. The appliances will be installed on Monday or Tuesday and the finishing touches will continue. The fireplace needs to be finished, carpet laid, as well as hardwood in the foyer. I can't wait to see it all finished soon! They are grading the yard to get it ready to sod too. Silas is especially excited about this part, since he loves landscaping and design. He drew up a plan of what we wanted and we shopped around at several nurseries to pick out all the plants and shrubs. They increased our landscape allowance a little bit because Silas wants to do all of the planting himself:) So planting everything will be a big part of what we are doing next week when he is not working. Once the yard gets done it will look like a whole new house from the outside, which is exciting. I'm sure I will do a whole post on the yard work next week!

Cuteness

Here are some random pictures from the past few weeks. I am a little behind, but things are busy!! This is Tyson and his friend Jake. They are so cute together:) I am impressed we got them to both look at the camera. The second picture they were very interested in whatever happened to be on TV. It must have been fascinating!

Here is Ty showing off his standing skills. He stands all the time, usually holding onto something, but he lets go and wobbles around a bit before holding back on. It won't be long before he is doing it on his own.
Here is my happy boy. He loves standing up in his crib and this is how I find him every time he wakes up. I have more great pictures from the past weekend, but no time to download them right now. We took Ty to the lake for the first time over Memorial Day and he had a blast out on the boat. I will get those up soon:)

Colors

Ok, here are some pictures of the paint colors. This is Tyson's room. Let's keep in mind that the flash on the camera makes them look different than they do in person, so the blue is not quite as bright and the kitchen is not quite as orange, but more rust. The rest is pretty neutral so they look the same. Tyson's bathroom will also be blue. The laundry room is the same as the kitchen since you go through it to get to the kitchen from the garage. I think I am feeling ok with it all now. I still have not laid my own eyes on some of this, so I have just had to go off what others who have seen it have said! I know that things will look a lot different when there is carpet or tile down to balance out the color, and things on the walls, and cabinets and counters too. This is definitely bold though!!! Silas is more daring than I am, so I am just trusting his lead and going with it! I am really excited to see the house this weekend. They installed all of the lighting yesterday and are laying tile today:) We are getting so close. I guess that means maybe I should start packing! Oh yeah, I can't leave a room for more than 2 seconds, so I'm not sure how that is going to happen, but we will find a way. Apartment living, we are so almost done with you:)
This is the foyer on the right and the kitchen on the left. Those nooks are for the built in desk and china hutch, serving area. The foyer will have hardwood in the entry and then tile in the kitchen and carpet in the living room.
Master bedroom...this is the same color as the den and foyer. I like how it looks darker in some spots and lighter in others, depending on the lighting.
A little better picture of the kitchen. It shows the color being a little darker and not as bright orange! I am so ready to see the floors and cabinets/counters in here.....it will make it all look so different. I think my hang up with the colors is that there is nothing else in the rooms to look at for now, so they seem a little overwhelming. I am hoping when its finished it will be more of a total effect and not a huge focal point. Oh yeah, we are using the tile from the kitchen floors as a surround for the fireplace in the den. I can't wait to see how that turns out either! I will post more pictures once we get some this weekend! Enjoy:)

Life As I Know It....

Is OVER!!! Welcome me to the world of a crawling, exploring baby:) I knew this day would come, and am pretty glad he waited a long time to decide the world was his playground, but we have finally arrived. I can no longer leave a room for more than 30 seconds before I hear a crash and have to go see what he has gotten himself into this time. No drawer, door, lamp cord or speaker is safe.....baby zilla will get his hands on it and do as much destruction as possible in just a matter of seconds!! The flip side of this phase is how much fun it is to watch the little guy explore his world and learn about things. It is so cute! I sound like a broken record though...."Tyson, no no. Tyson, we don't play with that!" Fun times! He is so smart though and looks at me before heading towards a forbidden thing. Crawl crawl stop sit, look if mom is watching, scoot scoot just a little closer, mom check, look at forbidden wire to TV, mom check, slowly reach hand towards wire, jump when mom says "no", and act all innocent, and then just give in to total temptation and grab the sucker!! Cry when mom nicely removes the wire from your grasp and puts you near your stash of toys to play with. But moooommmm....I just gotta play with that wire!!!! Repeat this process 5 million times and you have now lived a day in my shoes:) I am glad we will be moving soon and I can at least unpack my stuff into high cabinets and shelves and put the things its ok for him to play with on the lower levels. That is better than having to move it all. So in case I haven't fully announced it, we have a crawling baby:) And a pulling up baby, and a trying to stand on his own baby. So we will be entering the world of lots of smashed fingers in drawers and cabinets, and bumps and bruises from living life with wobbly legs! Luckily Ty is tough:)

The next exciting thing would be teeth. He woke up this morning with his second little bottom tooth poking through. Its so cute! The downside is he keeps trying to bite and chew on anything he can, which is usually some part of me. This morning while I was on the phone he went to town on my ankles!!! Ouch!

The rest of my news for today will be an update on the house. They should be finished painting today or tomorrow, and I'm still feeling pretty unsure about some of the colors. I am hoping that it just looks different since there is no furniture in the rooms and no floors and no lights. It's really just our master bath that I am worried about. We painted it a bright blue. BRIGHT blue. Silas calls it refreshing and invigorating, I call it loud and overwhelming!!! I am really hoping the floors, dark cabinets and mirrors tone it down a bit. So right now I am just nervous to see how it all comes together, and hoping that once it does and we accessorize, that I will be on board with having a refreshingly bright color!!! Maybe I am just one of those people that color makes me nervous!! I guess I will get over that since we will be having an orange kitchen!!! Ok, not orange, but rust (Ancient copper). I'm getting nervous just thinking about it all, so I have to go! I have pictures of the painted rooms and should be able to post them soon.

Motherhood

I never really wrote a lot about my actual Mother's day, so I thought I would do a quick post just for that. Silas surprised me before we went out of town with my gift, and I wish I had a picture of it to put on here. He kicked me out of the house one evening and spent some time with Ty making me a card. He colored his little hands and feet and made hand and foot prints for me:) Then he let Tyson "color" me a picture! He put it all together in a little book that said....To my momma on her very first mother's day. It was precious and of course made me cry:) What an amazing husband I have to be so thoughtful to do things like this for me, and what a precious son too. I have been so blessed and do not share that enough. Life has had its ups and downs, but God has been so good to me in so many ways, and that is what I was reminded of on this Mother's Day. When we were trying to get pregnant, I heard someone say that there are women out there who are mothers without children yet, and that's how I felt. Every day that I get to wake up and see those big brown eyes looking at me and that big grin, my heart melts and I just can't believe this little boy is mine. Both he and Silas make my life so full on a daily basis, and I can't ask for anything more. I have learned so much these past 10 months, much more than I can get into words for now. Being a mom is so much more than I could have ever imagined, and I am truly blessed to be able to be on this journey. Thanks to everyone who has been a part of our lives, and especially to all of the other mother's in my life that have been so supportive and encouraging. I am excited for those who are about to begin this journey as well!

Mother's Day in Texas

How cute is this face?!?!? What a sweetie pie I have:) Anyway, we packed up this past weekend and headed to Corsicana, TX to spend Mother's Day with the Orbison family. Ty did great on the 7 hour trip which was a huge blessing. Thank goodness for Veggie Tales!!! We really enjoyed getting to see almost all of Silas' immediate family and catch up with everyone. His older sister Stephanie couldn't make it as they are having a baby next month and have a lot going on right now. They were definitely missed though. Tyson was a ham as usual and loved playing with his cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents, and great-grandparents. We got some good pictures thanks to Aunt Nancy and Uncle Tom!!! They shared theirs with us and even made us a great CD to bring home:) We really appreciated that:) Ty was able to have several firsts on this trip as well. He got to go out to Papaw's horses at the barn and he seemed to really like them. He loves animals in general, and was fascinated by the horses as well. I guess we will have to get him on one the next time we are out that way. He did not seem shy at all and loved being held by everyone. I think he loves all the attention he gets!!! We had a good time visiting on Saturday and Sunday with family, and were even able to meet up with some friends from college on the way out of town. It's always good to catch up when we can. Overall, we had a great trip and look forward to heading back out that way for the holidays. We are hoping that Silas' mom can come visit us once we move this summer too:)

Orbison family picture, minus a few people. It was a beautiful day on Sunday and good to get outside. Papaw's corn looks so good, and I hate that we missed getting any by just a few weeks!!
Tyson with his Texas cousins. Only Tristen and Hayden are missing since they couldn't come this weekend.
I just put this one up because I thought it was cute. I can't get over how big he looks here either!! I think of him as my baby, but he acts like such a big boy:) He is a monkey for sure and likes climbing, and loved watching the horses. I will post a lot more pictures soon since we had so many from the weekend!

Thankful Thursday

This picture says it all. How can I not be thankful with a smile like this from my little guy everyday?!?!? I am so thankful to have such a happy baby that is so much fun to be with:) I could not be more blessed.
We have entered the world of self- feeding. He has been putting little pieces of food into his mouth by himself for a long time now, but he has been showing interest in feeding himself with actual utensils, so we are now having some new adventures in eating! He is actually pretty good already, and will take the spoon from my hand and turn it around and put the bite into his mouth. I'm pretty impressed with his skills actually! He just cant scoop the food onto the spoon by himself yet. When it comes to getting things to his mouth, he's a pretty quick learner!!!

Monday Musings

This post really doesn't have too much of a point, except that I am bored and just wanted to get my thoughts out there. I have been in a weird place emotionally these past few months, and weeks especially. I know that it all has to do with the major life changes that are going on with us, but it can be very unsettling at times. Sometimes I go for weeks and don't think about things, and then there are days where I just get so overwhelmed emotionally I don't know what to do! It's just part of it I guess. I am just in that world where feelings collide and leave you feeling strange a lot. I am so incredibly excited about the house and getting this final move over with I can't stand it, but also feel such a deep sadness about leaving this town, friends, church, and the overall familiarity and comfort it has brought me for years. Searcy has been one of the few places I have felt at home, since we have moved around so much, and I am sad to leave this place. With things getting closer and closer, I feel like I am in that "one more time" phase. You know, the lets go out to eat at our favorite places one more time, lets get together with friends we haven't seen much lately one more time before we go, let's do this or that one more time. It's a hard place to be, that's for sure. I am such a sentimental sap anyway, so these moments in life are never easy for me. It was hard enough leaving my house behind a few months ago, but I know there are many more changes just around the corner. I have often explained it to Silas like this....I feel like I am riding a huge roller coaster and am going up and up and up that big hill at the beginning where you feel this impending dread at having to go over the top, but there is also that building anticipation of what is to come, and you want it to stop, but you want to keep going too. Well, life, like the roller coaster, is not going to stop, so I know that I am going to stay on the ride and have fun while I'm on there! It is just strange how all of these emotions can be so closely related. Basically I am just exhausted from riding the emotional train the last few months. So I say all of this just to get it out there and recognize that when I have tough days, this is where it is coming from. I can tell you this though, the day I move I am going to run that washer and dryer all day and night until I get my clothes caught back up!! The pile of dirty laundry building in the corner of our bedroom is threatening to take over the whole room and it totally freaks me out!!! I guess this has just been a time of growing for me and having to realize that I can't get it all done all the time.
Ok, so basically I said this to say, I'm caught in a world of conflicting emotions which can be exhausting at the least. If you are in Searcy, I would love to hang out, if not, prayers for peace during these changes would be greatly appreciated.

Randomness

Well, I really don't have anything in particular to write about, so I thought I would just post some pictures of Silas and I with the baby. Actually, I do have some news. We spoke with our builder this week and got a hard date on the completion of our house....June 15th. That is actually the latest date we would close, and are still hoping that it will be finished a week or so ahead of that. We were really pushing to move the last week of May, but oh well. Apparently it is the trim guy holding things up at this point, since he has so many other housed to work on in the same phase as ours right now. It is still exciting to know for sure that we will be moving in 4-6 weeks though! At least now I can procrastinate on the packing for another week or so!!!
Besides that, we are just hanging out and enjoying the spring weather. Ty loves being outside, and we have recently added playing in the grass to our list of outdoor activities. Of course he mostly just eats it, but at least he is having a good time:)
Tyson has also started eating a lot more table food lately, since I have decided that baby food is really expensive!!! Maybe it's not that much, but have you seen my boy eat?!?!? The kid can put away some food! And it seems like the mushy stuff in jars is just not holding him long enough, so we are slowly adding in more and more table food. So far he has enjoyed pot roast (cooked carrots and potatoes and small pieces of meat), pancakes, cottage cheese, yogurt, diced apples, and a banana. That was just this week:) He loves it all and especially loves feeding himself. We got him some utensils that he should be able to start learning with, since he seems interested. We will see how that goes! It is fun introducing new things to him. Anyway, that's all for now. Enjoy the pictures:)
